ICE PRO™ XL – Large Long-Lasting Gel Ice Packs for Cool Box & Bag

The XL pack is designed for long-lasting cooling. Think days, not single hours.

In our tests, a single ICE PRO™ XL used in our EPIC 15 cool bag delivered over 20 hours of effective cooling, with the internal temperature reaching only 6.7°C after 12 hours (ambient temperature 23°C, empty bag, no openings during the test).

Using two XL packs can extend the cooling window to around 48 hours in well-insulated 15–20 litre cool bags or boxes. Larger cool boxes can achieve similar or even longer results by adding extra packs.

For an average medium-size cooler bag or box, 1–2 ICE PRO™ XL packs are usually enough to keep the contents cold for an entire day, if not a full 24 hours.

In well-insulated cool bags or boxes (such as our EPIC 15), two XL packs can deliver around 40-48 hours of effective cooling. Adding extra packs — as far as space allows — extends the cooling window significantly for multi-day trips.

Yes — many customers use both sizes together. The XL pack acts as the main “cooling battery”, providing long-lasting cold, while the Small packs can be placed between items to improve temperature distribution inside the bag or box. This combination delivers excellent overall cooling and helps keep all contents evenly chilled.

For best results, pre-chill the food in the fridge and place the packs around it to ensure even, consistent cooling.

The XL pack is flexible at room temperature and can be adjusted slightly before freezing. Many customers shape it to fit around larger food items or to line the sides of a cool box, then place it in the freezer in that form. Once frozen, the gel becomes a solid ice-like block, so the pack is no longer flexible and cannot be bent or reshaped until it returns to room temperature.

You can stack XL packs if needed, but they are not designed to stack neatly. When frozen, the packs become solid and firm, but they are not perfectly flat and their smooth surface means they don’t grip or lock together like rigid plastic blocks. They may shift slightly when placed on top of each other.

The ICE PRO™ XL measures 25 × 25 cm and is roughly 2.5 cm thick once prepared. Any cooler bag or box with an internal height of at least 25 cm and enough base length to accommodate the pack will work well. Larger cool boxes can fit several XL packs alongside your contents.

Customers commonly use 1–2 XL packs in 15–20 litre cooler bags, often achieving 1–2 days of cooling in well-insulated bags. In large 40–50+ litre cool boxes, using 5–8 packs can deliver over 2 days of sustained cooling, especially when the contents are pre-chilled.

The ICE PRO™ XL weighs around 900 g once filled, so just under 1 kg per pack. Despite the size and weight, it’s easy to handle and place inside a cool bag or cool box. When frozen, the surface becomes very cold, so take care when holding it for longer periods to avoid discomfort or frostbite.

Yes — using ICE PRO™ XL packs together with ice cubes is an excellent combination. Ice cubes cool the contents down quickly (smaller cubes work even faster), while the ICE PRO™ packs help maintain a stable low temperature for much longer. This means the ICE PRO™ doesn’t need to spend its “cooling power” bringing warm food or drinks down in temperature — instead, it can focus on extending the overall cooling window.

Many customers use this setup for camping, long trips, and large cool boxes where both fast cooling and long duration are needed.

To clean the pack, simply rinse it with water and wipe it dry if needed. When not in use, you can store ICE PRO™ XL packs in the freezer so they’re always ready, or keep them at room temperature in any convenient place. Just remember to place them back in the freezer at least 8 hours before use — ideally 12 hours to ensure they are fully frozen to the core.

The ICE PRO™ XL uses an aluminium-reinforced outer shell to improve both durability and cooling performance. The aluminium layer helps transfer cold quickly throughout your cool bag or cool box, while the nylon layers provide flexibility and resistance to tearing or punctures. This construction makes the XL pack far sturdier than standard plastic freezer blocks and allows it to withstand years of repeated freeze–thaw cycles without splitting or leaking. Many customers use the same packs daily for long periods with no loss of performance.
